New website for women who love hunters

One of the most interesting (and flattering) things about being a female hunter is how often male hunters say to you, "Man, I wish I had a woman like you."

If I were in the market for a guy, I'd certainly have my pick of potential partners, what with male hunters outnumbering females 9-to-1 in this country.

Of course, I'm not in the market, but Roxinne McPhail, a Southern California Realtor, is, and she decided to start a dating website called "Hunters Blind Date" designed specifically to match hunters to women who either hunt or just love guys with muddy pickups and dog hair all over the backseats.

I saw her article about a month ago in the Sportsman's Warehouse newspaper, The Sportsman's News, and now The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that about 100 men and women have visited the site (click here for that story).

“I know there are millions of women out there who are looking for a man to share the outdoors with them,” McPhail told Union-Tribune reporter Ed Zieralski. “They're just like me in that they support hunting activities, aren't opposed to guns, love being outdoors and are willing to cook wild meat. I'm hoping to attract women to this site who are looking for a touch of Neanderthal in their Mr. Right.”

She used that "Neanderthal" line in The Sportsman's News, too, and I've gotta admit I cringed when I saw it. Not the best word to associate with hunters when we're already viewed as troglodytes by much of the non-hunting world.

And speak for yourself, honey - I consider my hunter-man to be pretty highly evolved, and I like him that way.

Nonetheless, I'll be curious to see how this works. Are there really so many hunter-friendly women that McPhail can use her site to improve the odds for male hunters looking for a woman who doesn't shudder when they bring home venison? That would be great.

But I think I'd rather focus my energy on just getting more women to hunt. To each her own, I guess.

Holly,
I am very happy to see that the pendulum swing has taken a turn more towards center in such matters as this and that you are promoting it.

I have always made a conscious effort to date women whom shared, or at least understood, my love and need to be out of doors and to hunt.
I can't tell you how many relationships that I have seen which eventually fell apart because the first things to be sold or put permanently away were the guns.
Then the next thing to go was the hunting.
And all because the party which did not like these things and activities thought that they could forcibly change, and then re-mold the other person into what they wanted them to be.

A site like this should help to create an awareness of just how deeply and genetically ingrained the urge to "Hunt" is within the human psyche. And it just might save a whole lot of people a whole lot of time and heartache.

And if a person feels uncomfortable joining up with a service like the one which you have mentioned here, they can weed out any undesirables in the manner of which I adopted back when I was single.

When the question would be asked, "So, what do you do for a living and what activities do you enjoy and like to do for recreation?
My answer would be, " I raise Pit Bull Dogs and I like Guns and Huntin' and Killin' things out in the woods!

This would either send them running fast away or leave them wildly intrigued and spending the night!

Dude, you crack me up!

But I know it's true. I'm often amazed at how many hunters I've met whose girlfriends and even wives hate their hunting and won't eat game meat. I even met one whose wife would not let him refrigerate or cook game meat in the house - and she wasn't even a vegetarian!

That one in particular is a sad statement on society - that the woman's view of hunting is so twisted that she thinks there's something wrong with hunted meat (organic, naturally fed, lived free) but not with factory farmed meat (cruelty and confinement from day one, antibiotics, hormones, unnatural diets). Astonishing.

Your advice about putting hunting etc. on the table right away is good. Changing yourself for someone else is never a good thing.

Well Native... I was one of those women who was definitely intrigued when my hubby told me he hunted while we were dating. He said something about it right up front and so I've never had a problem with him spending every weekend of hunting season out hunting, I just decided to join him and I'm glad I did. Some of our other hunter-friends wives give them grief all season long about this and that needing done and about how often and how long they are gone - it just seems wrong to me.

Oh and Holly - my hunter is rather evolved too :)

My wife is exactly like Blessed. She has never tried to keep me away from hunting, and just knows that is a part of me. She encourages me to go, and she also tags along as well.

I am interested to see how this site works out for her. I think the idea isn't a bad one, but maybe her choice of words are.

I'm with you, I'm not fond of the choice of words that she used, but the site is an interesting idea. I'll be interested to see how successful this site becomes.

For myself,
I really do not mind being referred to as a Neanderthal by individuals whom are obviously ignorant of the facts about our early ancestors.
They were possessed of physical prowess, excellent stalkers that were full of stealth and who could bare handed, grapple with wild game when the need arose.

A larger and more sophisticated nasal passage system which allowed them to run for extended periods of time, particularly in colder and frigid climates.

Discovered Fire! " R, R ,R ."

And, had a larger brain than we currently do, which scientists now have ascertained was capable of a more sophisticated thought process than was originally presumed.
In short, they were just simply better at surviving the elements and better all the way around. Except in the looks department. They kinda' got short changed in that area.

Native, you make Neanderthal sound so good! But you left out that the Neanderthals did not invent rock and roll, which is a critical shortcoming on their part. ;-)

In all seriousness, though, I'll try to keep an eye on this site to see how she does.

I just can't stop thinking if all these chicks are so friendly to hunting and hunters, we should be putting guns in their hands. Perhaps she should promote guns as engagement gifts for her successful matches...

Interesting idea. Bet my wife didn't know she was married to a neanderthal. I hope she likes that when I tell her.

Hey Holly,
Always remember that the bands "Mott The Hoople" and later on "Kiss" told us the gospel truth!

God, gave rock and roll to us!!!
