VIDEO: Women and Children Shoot First

Man, there is something fantastic about being involved in a special event.

I've been working all year with California Waterfowl's Women's Outdoor Connections, a group developing programs designed to get women more involved in the outdoors, and Saturday was our first major event.

Picture this: Forty women and kids took up arms for a day of shooting, conservation, hunting and cooking lessons at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays.

It was a blast. I could've just written about it on Sunday morning, but it was really fun, and I think this little slideshow I put together captures the spirit of the day much better (despite my extreme amateur status with this stuff). Check it out:

And oh yeah, in case you're wondering: Yes, the guy doing the cooking lessons was none other than Boyfriend. He rocked!

And did you notice those pink duck calls? They were made especially for this event by an Oregon Company called KumDuck. The owners came down to do the demo personally.

All in all, a sweet day.

Its really great to see all of this attention focused on women in the outdoors lately. I think it is one of the best things going to help insure the long term survival of our hunting heritage. I even saw womens hunting gear at my local Walmart this year!!!
And lots of it. Keep up the good work Holly!

AFter reading his blog, I can't think of a better person to be teaching the cooking - man, I wish he'd come on up here and give us a lesson or two! I mean, we're no sluches when it comes to cooking, but I get in a rut where it's the same ol' thing time after time after time...which is fine because I like it that way, but sometimes I wish I knew other ways to cook wild game like he does!

Looks like a great event, Holly - good for you for becoming involved!

Yea Holly! Good work and nice to see more huntresses in training. It is quite comforting to know there are young women joining the hunting heritage. That duck calling was . . . priceless!

Way to go Holly, and great job on the video presentation! Women getting into hunting...I say, FANTASTIC! (So does Kim, my better half, who loves to hunt)

Holly!
Have you checked out Mick LaSalle he has some pretty disparaging things to say about hunters and hunting and I think that you could take him to task, especially with this particular post.

Good post and keep up the good work!

Holly: You did a great job on the video. I'm glad Penny was nice enough to invite me to join in the festivities. We had a wonderful time. Tell Boyfriend the duck and pheasant was delicious. You're sure lucky to have him around. Hope to be participating in more of these events with y'all.

Thank you for a wonderful job on the photos and audio of the shoot. Great pics!! As always it was wonderful to see so many new faces having a fun day of shooting and games at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays. Is there is anything that Nancy or I can do in the future to help you achieve your objectives? We stand ready to help. I hope you will think of us whenever you need an event location in the bay area. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
